Reading Charlie

I didn’t know Charlie very well when he died. I only had a year. With every email, phone call or visit at the studio, I had felt like I was stealing time.  I talk to him often now.  His energy was dwindling in 2018-19, and I was reluctant to push. Because of the effects of… Continue reading Reading Charlie

Clay Form Memories Series

This month I’ve been working with a series of clay forms… still unfired. But they’re embedded with memories of people and places I’ve known. The petal and tip of a fire pink bloom, the long wall of Great Zimbabwe, writing the Arabic alphabet, an embellished door in the Forbidden City, a tucked swallow’s wing, Mary’s… Continue reading Clay Form Memories Series

Gray Gates Poems

Another of the Gray Gates Poems. These are mostly about 10“ x 36“ and can be hung as is, or fused to a background to match your decor

March 2020

Everything was going so well a month ago. And yet, it still is. It’s been a strange shift – from a busy, active studio with almost daily visitors, to a closed, solitary workshop. And yet, it opened up. I have been so frantically busy in the past nine months, trying every which way to earn… Continue reading March 2020

Gray Gate Poems

Excerpt from a new fused glass series “Gray Gate Poems”. This poem in its entirety is 10” by 38” and can hang directly on the wall – which then casts subtle shadows – or can be fused onto a colored piece of glass to match your decor.

The glass must then be annealed, cooling at a slow, even rate so that the glass remains stable. The kiln firing on smaller pieces takes… Continue reading Process

Glass tree

Trying to decide what to do with this glass tree I made. Please click on photo to see the whole piece. It’s 10” by 22” and weighs nothing. I like it just as it is, but there are other directions it could go: become part of a fused glass scene that is then framed and… Continue reading Glass tree
