“Dissolution” featured by the Women’s Caucus for Art of Georgia

On Sept. 18, 2015, I woke up with the certain knowledge that I would be dead before the year was out. The premonition prompted me to spend the day working on a slow-motion video that I’d thought about but never found time to produce: I wrapped myself in a black sheet and leapt into a swimming pool again and again, letting my movement express the dance between life and dissolution.
Two months later, I nearly died from a ruptured brain aneurysm. It has been a long struggle to cope with the cognitive changes that resulted from this injury; I often feel that my old self has dissolved completely.
I recently re-interpreted the slow-motion videos as a series of still images called “Dissolution,” each expressing one of the moods that overtook me during my recovery. “Dissolution #62: Resistance” comes from the strength of knowing my own resilience.
