Year-end stories are often told by the numbers, so here are a few for Charlie\u2019s studio in 2019.<\/p>\n

Since July, we\u2019ve held 6 workshops and 12 private learning sessions for 35 participants. There have been 53 other visitors, including the Open House, curious neighbors, and artists who have used the studio equipment and kilns. Together we have made dozens of pieces of glass art.<\/p>\n

But the most significant numbers for December are the coded ones-<\/p>\n

We now have an official catalog of Charlie\u2019s glass artwork.<\/p>\n

I hired Anna Carnes, the Curatorial & Collections Fellow in the Dept of Art & Art History at Agnes Scott College, to create the catalog. Over the course of several days, she measured, weighed, photographed, identified glass colors, and wrote descriptions and notes for each one of the 82 pieces that Charlie left in the studio.<\/p>\n

Some even I had never seen before. Although I got many of them out for the Open House in October, there were still more tucked away.<\/p>\n

The Shelter series alone includes 41 pieces, weighing 15 to 84 pounds. And much heavier – four of them were too heavy for us to lift out of the crates.<\/p>\n

But when properly lit, they glow with gradients of subtle color.<\/p>\n

We were also mesmerized by the painterly beauty of the 21 flat pieces\u2026 each one evokes a flowing and mysterious spirit.<\/p>\n

Anna, who is cataloging the art collection of Agnes Scott College and the Decatur Arts Alliance, was very impressed with Charlie\u2019s work. Like so many who see his work for the first time, she feels it needs to be out in the world, on display.<\/p>\n

But the first step in getting Charlie\u2019s art evaluated, exhibited in galleries and sold to collectors is to know what is here.<\/p>\n

Now we know.<\/p>\n

The year we are entering seems an appropriate number for my aim – 2020, perfect vision. I want to bring Charlie\u2019s pieces into the clarity of light, where they can inspire the greatest number of people.<\/p>\n
